SELF-CONFIDENCE

When you have self-confidence, this will exude an aura about you that convinces those around you in your capability and ability to deliver on the job. How you carry yourself and your brand will speak to your self-confidence.

The key to your success is to believe in your skills and abilities with grace and trust in yourself and show your talents to the world without fearing judgment, as you cannot expect people to believe in you without you believing in yourself first. Proving you are confident in your abilities and talents will ensure that people see you as a strong individual who is able to pull through whatever challenges thrown at them.

PUBLIC SPEAKING

You cannot be great at public speaking by just memorizing the information, solving complex mathematical problems, or reciting a speech from a presentation. If you are not comfortable with yourself or the method of delivery standing in front of a crowd, you will either stand flush-faced or lose it as public speaking is an essential skill to have. Public speaking requires self-confidence, analyzing your audience and practice.

Although this skill does come naturally to some, it is also a skill that can be learned due to it being sought after by many organizations. If you really think about it, whether you are meeting clients or presenting in front of board members, you represent the company. It seems only fair that they would hire an individual that can carry themselves confidently while gaining buy-ins.

TACTFULNESS

Dealing with any situation in a diplomatic way is necessary especially if you are client-facing or dealing with a conflict with colleagues or supervisors. Even if you believe you are right or you felt it would be useful for you to share your thoughts with your colleague, realize that not everyone reacts the same to different styles of confrontation. Some may not appreciate the truth or encounter.

Ideally, it is crucial to understand what you are dealing with and the various issues that pop up while being able to read the environment around you. This means really learning to differentiate when to speak and when to hold back when it’s needed.

CREATIVITY

It’s considered an advantage to any role you may have to be creative and think outside the box. It allows you to showcase your ability to find solutions to problems using creativity, reasoning, and experience, supported with information and resources.

Finding innovative ways to improve on how the work is getting done while working on increasing processes and efficiencies in producing high-quality work and creating a productive environment can change the organization’s overall dynamics. This includes saving time and costs, which may result in improving the quality of what’s been delivered whether on services, products or outcomes.

INTEGRITY AND ETHICS

Integrity combined with genuine moral values must be considered a vital part of any workplace. While you may face or witness a scandal or two, or you might cross paths with a bad apple that will test your limits here or there; employees need to maintain their integrity and values above all.

Honesty and taking a strong stand to your values will pay off in the end and you shall reap the rewards of sticking to your integrity. An untarnished reputation, after all, is what will help you move up in your career.

STRONG WORK ETHIC

Employers are always searching for employees that are passionate about what they do, engaged, and committed to their assignments.  Showing resiliency when faced with a problem while committed to finding solutions until the issues are resolved are great qualities to show.

Arriving at work on time, being reliable and accountable are fundamental indicators of the employee’s commitment, as it does speak to whether you are the right fit for a specific role and the employee’s longevity.

ABILITY TO ACCEPT AND LEARN FROM CRITICISM

If an individual demonstrates an attitude of accepting feedback and shows openness, this considers their willingness to learn regardless of age or experience. Continually learning in the workplace, remaining open to new information that can enhance and grow your skills and abilities goes a long way in building towards a successful long career.

One must become a life long learner with an open mindset for growth, as jobs are constantly changing and organizations are evolving at a fast rate. Employees of all ranks should welcome the opportunities for growing and learning either by experiencing new situations, training or doing what’s outside of their comfort zone to listen and learn from constructive criticism.

COMPUTER AND ELECTRONICS SKILLS

Nowadays, most jobs require you to have the necessary technical skills to advance using different applications software or understand how to operate tablets/iPad and other types of electronics in general. As organizations rely more and more on technology to help us conduct our daily tasks, communicate, present, and complete many more other functions that might be needed in the workplace, we are being pushed outside of our comfort zone to learn new technologies every day at a faster pace than normal.
